 AUGUST MINUTES AND PROCEEDINGS:

            Chairperson Sherrie Lowe opened the meeting at 12:05 PM by leading the board in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of The United States.

PRESENT:

            Sherrie Lowe, Jim Townsend, Roger Sandoz, Dick Clark, Yvonne Parrish, Karen Adams, and George Crawford attended the monthly meeting.

JULY MINUTES:

            Yvonne made a motion to approve the July minutes and Karen seconded it. The motion carried.

AUGUST TREASURER’S REPORT:

            In the absence of David Clapp, Jim made the treasurer’s report. There is a total of $6,556.71 in the KPB account at the Putnam State Bank. Yvonne made a motion to approve the report and George seconded it. This motion also carried. The question arose concerning year-end roll over funds: Jim promised to get an answer. A special meeting may have to be held depending upon the response.

OLD BUSINESS:

1.      Fred Green Park-Jim reported that six palms and six cathedral live oaks have been purchased and planted. Help is needed to water them and the mulch beds around the trees also need to be rebuilt.

2.      The Keep America Beautiful Putnam County Litter Survey has been completed and results submitted. Average scores for the county was an excellent 1.49. This does not include the many unauthorized dumping sites.

3.       An additional hose reel is needed and will be purchased under the approved monies from last month.

4.      FDOT grant application was filed on August 10, 2008 for an anticipated $13,500.

5.      The Coastal Clean-Up will be September 15.

6.      The clean up at Etoniah (Bardin) was completed. It is noted that graffiti seems to be a growing problem.

NEW BUSINESS:

            1.  The board approved a motion by Roger and seconded by Yvonne to select an Adopt A Highway site on SR 19 from US 17 to SR 100.

            2.  We need a Keep Putnam Beautiful to conduct a general membership meeting.

            3.  The new Downtown Manager, Harry Akins, has asked KPB for suggestions to increase recycling at city activities such as the Azalea and Blue Crab Festivals.

            4. Jim discussed the proposed native plant nursery at the city sewage plant.  The board elected to have the next monthly meeting do a field trip there to view the site.

            5. Several of the board members will meet Wednesday, August 22 at 9:00 AM at KPB to remove a large downed limb at St Joseph Cemetery and then perform a cleanup in Bardin.

            6.  The board held a discussion concerning the possible purchase of a lawn mower.

            7. George made a motion not to donate money to other non-profit organizations. Yvonne seconded the motion and it passed.

            8. The board unanimously approved Roger utilizing the KPB trailer on Saturday August 18 to support the Elks Club collection of food for the community. 

THE NEXT BOARD MEETING WILL BE A FIELD TRIP TO VIEW THE PROPOSED NATIVE NURSERY SITE.  WE WILL MEET AT NOON, SEPTEMBER 21, AT THE KPB OFFICE.

Sherrie adjourned the meting at 1:23 PM.
